Hello Steffen, thank you for taking the time to speak to us. Can you introduce yourself first and tell us a little bit about your life?

What is there to report about my life? I was born in 1970 and had a nice childhood. As a child, I was artistic and enjoyed travelling. I drew and made a lot.

After I successfully trained as a manufacturer of advertising templates, I started my own business as a photo artist.

I have been working under the company name Magic Artist Design for more than 10 years now.

What does a typical day like Steffen Gierok look like?

So in the morning, nothing works without coffee. I get up early to enjoy the day to the fullest.

I am lucky enough to work from home so I can organise my day how I like. If there are any appointments, they will, of course, be processed. Otherwise, I am on the computer with my cup of coffee checking and answering my emails first. Then, it's off to work.

I evaluate, edit and upload pictures; that's how it usually works for me. I also make and take various business calls.

How and when did you first become interested in photography?

I come from the graphics background and trained in graphic designer for prepress. So, the medium of photography is not far away.

I taught myself how to use the technology and watched many tutorials video. After ten years of self-employment, I was able to gain some experience. I started with a small digital camera and then moved onto the Nikon D850 full format.

Can you tell us about your move from design advertising to photography?

The change was actually easy. I needed photo material for the advertising and had to produce it myself.

I am a very creative and free person, and advertising was too fenced for me. I can live out in photography and express my own way of thinking. I also wanted to share certain moments that evoke emotions with other people.

What kit do you use?

I work with the Nikon D 7000 and the Nikon D850. As an objective, I have most of the Nikkor 10-24mm and 24-120mm. I also discovered and learned to love the Mayer Görlitz Trioplan 100mm 2.8.

Can you tell us something about your post-processing?

Since my pictures are always photographed in RAW, I develop them using image processing programs from Adobe. I've known Photoshop since the mid-90s. This is the number one for me. I also use Lightroom for development.

I give the pictures my personal touch and try to give them an independent look. But it should only support the original and not falsify it.
