How to Measure Your Wall

Find out the best way to measure every wall type for your wall mural!

Measuring Your Wall

Measuring your wall for a custom wall mural is quick and easy. You simply need to measure the height and width of the longest and widest points of your wall.

No matter what type of shape your room is, we can custom-print a wall mural for you.

Below, we’ve detailed the most common wall types, however, if your room is a different shape, get in touch and our Customer Service Team will help guide you through the measuring process.

Standard Wall

To measure a standard wall, we require the edge to edge details for the longest and widest parts of the wall. We recommend you take the full rectangular measurements of the wall, then, compare these to the longest and widest points.

Wall Section

For a wall section, decide where you want to install your wall mural, then measure the width and length of the space. Stand back to check whether the mural is in the right place. Once you’re 100% sure the area is right, mark the wall with a pencil to help you find it again.

Sloped Wall

If you’re measuring a space with a sloped wall or ceiling, measure the widest points, ignoring any slopes. You can then cut away the excess during the installation process. When choosing your image, make sure to go for one that's appropriate for your space.

Wall with Obstacles

If measuring an area with doors or windows, measure the longest and widest areas, ignoring the object. During installation, cut away the excess where the obstacle is. It may be best to add an extra few centimetres to compensate for the door/window frame etc.

Wall with Corners

If you’re adding a wall mural to a room where you’re covering a corner, measure each section of the wall and combine their widths together. You’re then able to use one mural across both the walls rather than ordering two.

Ceiling

If you’re measuring your ceiling for a wall mural, measure the widest and longest points of the ceiling ignoring any light fittings. During the installation, these areas should be cut around.

Tips and Tricks

Measuring a wall with two people is much easier than doing it alone, especially for difficult shapes and large areas. Measuring in a pair will help you ensure the dimensions are correct.

Measurements are input to your order in centimetres. Noting down in this unit will save you having to convert any measurements.

For all wall mural spaces, we recommend you add an extra 5-10 cm. This will give you a margin for error when mounting and cutting. It’s better to have too much than too little as murals can be trimmed.

Don’t include any skirting boards, coverings or crown moulding as these are typically left uncovered.

You should double check all of your measurements to make sure they’re right before placing your order!

Once you've measured your wall and paced your order, head to our installation guide for the next step.
